Change or remove your number

Before you start

• The handset the new number is on, if you are changing it — the change is confirmed with a code texted to the new number, not to the old one.

Steps

1. Open the Phone page and find Your number

   It is the middle section, the one box labelled *The number you text from*. Whatever is in it now is what is stored.

2. To change it: type the new number over the old one

   A change is treated exactly like a first registration, because that is what it is: the tick box comes back, and Save texts a code to the new number.

   The old agreement is not carried across. It was about the old number, and a consent that follows a number around is worth nothing to anybody asking whether this number agreed.

   Until you finish the code step, nothing is written — the old number stays live and the box snaps back to it if you cancel.

3. To remove it: clear the box

   Empty the box and press Save. No code and no tick box — giving a number up proves nothing, so nothing is asked of you.

   Read the next section before you do this: it takes more with it than the number.

4. Press Save

   Removals happen immediately. A change stops at the code box first, and only writes once the code checks out.

What happens next

• A change: texts from the new number now land on your board, and the old number is no longer recognised.
• A removal: texting stops in both directions, and the Texting in section goes back to “Not assigned yet” — your BrainSack number is released along with your own.
• Nothing on the board is affected either way. Notes that arrived by text stay exactly where they are.

If something goes wrong

Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.

You want to keep the old number as well as the new one

Not possible today — an account texts in from one number, and the box holds one. Changing it moves you across rather than adding a second.

The code went to the wrong number

It goes to whatever is typed in the box, not to the number being replaced. Cancel, correct the digits, and save again.

You removed your number and now there is no BrainSack number

Expected: the number you text is assigned to the pairing of your number with ours, so with nothing of yours registered there is nothing to hold it. Adding a number back assigns one again — possibly a different one, so re-check your contacts.

You cancelled halfway and cannot tell what is stored

The box always snaps back to what is actually stored after a cancelled or refused save. What you see is the truth.

It says the new number belongs to another account

A mobile number can be registered to one BrainSack account at a time. Remove it from the other one first, or email us if that account is not reachable.
