Find things on the board
Everything narrowing the board is in one strip: the rail picks what you are looking at, the header searches and sorts it.

Before you start
- A board with enough on it to be worth narrowing.
Steps
Search from the header
The box at the top of any view filters what that view is showing. It matches the text of an item, its tag names, and the date as it is displayed — so typing a month often finds the thing you half-remember writing.
It searches within the view you are in. To search everything, be on Sack first.
Switch views from the rail
Sack is the board. List is the same items one per row rather than as a masonry of cards — same search, same sort, different shape. Archive is the opposite half: everything you have put away.
The little arrow beside Sack opens the four kinds — Notes, Checklists, Encrypted notes, Files — each with a count.
Filter to a tag
Tags are listed below the views with a count each. Clicking one narrows the board to it, and anything you write while you are there picks that tag up automatically.
Change the sort
Newest, Oldest or Title, from the header. The choice is saved, so it holds across views and sessions.
Pinned items are their own section at the top whatever the sort says.
What happens next
- The count beside the view title reads “showing this many, of this many”, so it is always clear whether a filter is on.
- A search sits in the address bar, so a narrowed board can be bookmarked or shared with yourself.
If something goes wrong
Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.
- A word you know you wrote finds nothing
- Check which view you are in — search only looks at what that view holds. And if it was in an encrypted note, the body is not searchable at all: the board never holds it. Search its title.
- Something has vanished from the board
- It is probably archived. Check the Archive view; the counts in the rail will tell you at a glance.
- The counts do not add up
- Every count in the rail is of live items except Archive’s, which is of archived ones. An archived item is not on the board you would be navigating to, so counting it there would make the number a small lie.
- Pinned items ignore the sort
- They are a separate section rather than the top of one list, so the sort applies within each. That is what makes the distinction visible at all.
- You want to search file contents
- Not supported. Search reads the item — its title, text, tags and date — not the inside of an attachment.
Next
- Organize with tags — Tags are typed, never picked from a list. How to make one, rename it, recolour it, and why empty ones vanish.
- Pin, archive and delete — Three different ways of getting something out of your way, only one of which is permanent.
- Change how the board looks — Three themes, card density, timestamps, sort and two behaviour switches. Everything saves as you touch it.
